Silterra
Donates PCs to Sunshine Cottage
July 11, 2006 - As part of Silterra’s continuing
efforts to help bridge the digital divide, a group
of 5 employees led by En Tahir Hamdan contributed
three personal computers (PCs) to Sunshine Cottage
Centre recently.
Located in Kulim, Sunshine Cottage Centre is a home
managed by a non-profit organization for children
from broken families as well as those without
relatives. It also provides shelter for people with
physical and mental disabilities.
The Centre owes its efficient functioning to the
dedicated couple, Edmund and Maria, who have devoted
their undivided time and attention to provide a
nurturing and nourishing environment for the 38
occupants.
While the Centre relies on public donations to pay
for its basic amenities, individual volunteers as
well as those from various organisations provide
free tuition and assist in housekeeping.
Silterra’s regular volunteers at the home are
Samivel, Kaledas, Kalavathi and Leena.
During the presentation ceremony, Edmund and Maria
expressed their gratitude and said they were
confident that the PCs donated by Silterra would
help the occupants develop greater interest in
information and communication technology. Edmund and
Maria also said that their long term plan is to
start a computer centre whereby children from other
schools can enjoy the benefits of computers.
Currently the Centre is in need of clothes, school
uniforms, shoes, socks, blankets, mattresses,
pillows, computer tables and chairs. Silterrians who
would like to contribute to the Centre are
encouraged to do so by contacting Ms Leena.
