Optical Data Communications

Surging cloud applications are driving the growth in data centre traffic.

This, in turn, is creating the need for high speed networks and next-generation optical connectivity in data centers so that they can continue to support the growing intensity of bandwidth and computing requirements in networks which are now primarily optical in nature.

Traditionally, the biggest challenge to cloud adoption has been security. Now, however, with increased innovation in security, the benefits of cloud computing are becoming more tangible. The growth in IoT is expected to bring rise to applications such as smart cars, connected health and smart cities, all of which will require high-end computing and storage solutions in data centers.

Silicon photonics is expected to be a key enabler in meeting the demands of future data centers as well as long-haul communications.

Since early 2017, SilTerra has been fabricating silicon photonics chips on our CMOS line. These chips are capable of supporting optical transceiver modules which handle data bandwidths of up to 100Gbps. Our partnerships with game-changers in technology is now seeing us support the development and fabrication of chips capable of handling data bandwidths of 400 Gbps and beyond.

Life Sciences

The convergence of nanoelectronics and life sciences is expected to take the next leap of advancement in revolutionizing the way we address healthcare and biochemistry.

Through successful strategic partnerships that SilTerra has built throughout the years, combined with its technological expertise in CMOS process technologies, biophotonics, MEMS, microfluidics and silicon nanowires, SilTerra is now enabling nanotechnology to revolutionize applications in life sciences.

The release of SilTerra’s “Piezoelectric Micromachined Ultrasound transducer (PMUT) on CMOS” platform is a strong testament of our commitment towards innovation. The unique PMUT on CMOS platform is a truly monolithic solution as it integrates the PMUT on the top of the CMOS resulting in a single-chip solution. Through this solution, we intend to enable our customers to bring more cutting-edge solutions in finger-print sensing, medical imaging, gesture sensing and range finding.

Additionally, SilTerra’s excellence in biophotonics fabrication processes has facilitated the availability of DNA sequencing chips which are powering the world’s highest consensus accuracy DNA sequencers available to date.
