SILTERRA AWARDS BEST MICROELECTRONICS STUDENTS AT UKM

Bangi, Malaysia (December 3, 2004) – SilTerra Malaysia Sdn Bhd (SilTerra), a leading semiconductor wafer foundry, recently presented achievement awards to the top three Microelectronics students at University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). The awards were intended to help nurture a pool of highly qualified local graduates for the Malaysian high technology industry.

Bruce Gray, President, COO and acting CEO of SilTerra Malaysia said, “We wanted to raise the visibility of the local semiconductor industry and recognised the need to encourage outstanding students to serve as an inspiration for their peers. Our goal is to instil the desire among the students to excel in the industry and enhance the talent pool here in Malaysia.”

“With more available talent, more companies will be able to develop state-of-the-art products and provide top-notch design solutions in the growing Malaysian electronics industry,” he said, adding that SilTerra will continue to sponsor these awards for at least the next three years.

Samuel Hong received the Best Student award, while Queennie Lim and Mohd. Nashran received the second and third Best Student awards, respectively. The students were judged based on their academic achievements (CGPA) and co-curricular activities.

According to Samuel Hong, “I am really happy and honoured to receive this award. The recognition from SilTerra has boosted my confidence and motivated me to work even harder. I am sure from now onward, many students will work hard and compete for the trophy. I hope more companies would sponsor similar awards for deserving students.”

The Best student received a cash reward of RM 2000 and a Challenge Trophy; the second and third best received RM 1000 and RM 500, respectively. Each of the students were also presented a Certificate in recognition of their achievement.
