Kulim – SilTerra Malaysia Sdn Bhd is
sponsoring 4,100 copies of the New Straits Times
for SMK Taman Hi-Tech Kulim here under the
Newspaper-in-Education (NIE) programme.
Its senior manager for corporate development and
external affairs Tahiruddin Hamdan presented
copies of the NST to the school’s senior
assistant Lau Chun Kwong yesterday.
Under the sponsorship programme, the school will
receive 20 copies of the NST daily for the next
205 school days.
Tahiruddin said SilTerra was happy to participate
in the sponsorship programme as a form of
community service.
"I hope the students will benefit from it.
Reading the NST will help the students enhance
their proficiency in the English language,"
he said.
SilTerra is the first company in the Kulim Hi-Tech
Park to take part in the NIE programme.
Lau believed the students would read the NST daily
to improve their vocabulary, adding that the
newspapers would be provided to the PMR and SPM
students.
He said the habit of reading newspapers would help
them keep abreast of happenings around them.
Teachers Azlina Abdul Rahman and Rofitah Ahmad,
who attended the NIE training programme recently,
will guide the students in the use of the
newspaper.
Also present were SilTerra human resources manager
Nor Asmahan Othman, the school’s co-curriculum
senior assistant Rohaimi Ismail, NST senior
circulation executive Wan Zarifah Wan Ibrahim and
NIE sales executive R. Ganapreeta.
