SILTERRA PROMOTES HIGH TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION
Semiconductor wafer foundry identifies innovation as key to
growth
Kulim, December 10, 2006 – Silterra Malaysia Sdn Bhd
(Silterra), a leading semiconductor wafer foundry, majority
owned by Khazanah Nasional Berhad, recently presented special
awards to its innovative employees as part of the company’s
strategy to cultivate creativeness and entrepreneurial spirit
amongst its thousand-odd employees.
The awards were presented during the closing ceremony of
Silterra’s Innovation Celebration Week, held annually to
foster a proactive attitude for employees to seek creative
solutions to improve the company’s operational performance.
This year the awards were offered in four categories: Cost
Reduction, Yield Improvement, Operational Efficiency and
Operational Support.
Bruce Gray, CEO of Silterra said, “At Silterra, we provide

out-of-the-box. We strongly believe that innovation is
essential to the company’s competitiveness. It is the
creative mindset of the people that help them excel in their
chosen fields. The Innovation Week underscores our commitment
to continuously enrich the quality of our staff and improve
the company’s performance.”
A total of 50 teams competed for the awards this year – a
66% increase compared to last year. Each team comprised of
four to five members.
“Silterra is very pleased with the number of high quality
submissions as it showcases the immense potential for
innovation. It is also a clear demonstration of the commitment
of our people. I’m confident the awards will encourage us to
be more innovative, inline with our aspiration to become a
catalyst for the development of a knowledge based
workforce,” said Gray.
Winners from each category received RM 5,000, with two
consolation prizes of RM 500 per category. The winners were
also presented a certificate in recognition of their
achievement.
The teams were judged based on the following factors: problem
definition, analysis, solution and implementation, and
results. The winning projects have been implemented in the
company and have contributed significantly to the company’s
operational efficiency and cost reduction initiatives.
The team led by Mohd Prasad received the Cost Reduction Award.
An overjoyed Mohd Prasad said, “We are so excited to win
this award. It means a lot to us, as this is the first time we
have participated. This recognition has given us greater
confidence and enthusiasm to develop more innovative
technologies. In fact, we are already thinking about our
submissions for next year’s awards. We want to continuously
improve and I hope this competitive spirit will drive us to
win more awards next year!”
The Yield Improvement Award was presented to Lee Yoke Yee. The
Operational Efficiency Award was presented to Muhammad Shariff
while the Operational Support Award was won by Ahmad Nurul and
their respective teams.
