SILTERRA
TO INTRODUCE NEW CHIPS
Kulim, Kedah, April 22, 2008 – SilTerra Malaysia Sdn.
Bhd. plans next month to unveil its new range of chips for
small and large panel displays used in handheld devices and
liquid crystal display (LCD) panels.
Chief
Executive Officer, Eg Kah Yee told StarBiz that Silterra used
the latest CMOS logic technology to develop chips, designed to
give higher colour resolution for display panels.
"Measuring
0.13-micron in size, these chips are high-voltage (HV) types
commonly used in MP3 players and handphones."

"We
are also developing another range of HV 0.18-micron chips used
for LCD screens," Eg said.
He
said Silterra expected to ship out about 184 million HV
0.16-micron and HV 0.13-micron chips this year.
The
HV 0.16-micron chips released late last year is the
predecessor of the HV 0.13-micron chips.
"The
units to be shipped out makes 15% of the 1.2billion handphones
expected to be released this year," he said.
Eg
said Silterra was now more focused on its production of chips.
"Previously,
we also produced chips used in modems, routers and ADSL
devices. We are now focusing on making chips used in
handphones and display panels," he said.
Eg
said Silterra spent US$30mil to US$40mil annually on research
and development.
Established
in 1995, Silterra has since invested about US$1.6bil in its
wafer manufacturing facility at Kulim Hi-Tech Park.
