SilTerra Keynotes @ IEEE International Conference on Sensors and Nanotechnology
SilTerra was honored to provide a keynote address at the recent IEEE International Conference on Sensors and Nanotechnology. Held in Penang from the 24th – 25th July, this event was organized by the IEEE Malaysia Section Sensors and Nanotechnology Joint Councils Chapter. Conference Chair, Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohd Khairuddin Md Arshad, highlighted in his welcome note that this was the first Sensors and Nanotechnology conference to be held in Malaysia, aimed at gathering researchers from the industry and academia to share and explore the latest technology trends in the area of sensors and nanotechnology.
The keynote presentation delivered by Dr. Mohanraj, Deputy Director, MEMS & Sensors Business Unit of SilTerra, was entitled “SilTerra's PiezoMEMS Platform for Sensing Applications”. In his presentation, Dr. Mohanraj spoke of SilTerra’s initiative in standardizing manufacturing methods and creating a platform for Piezoelectric Micro-Electro-Mechanical-Systems (MEMS) sensors so that they could be easily deployed for applications in biosensing, temperature sensing, pressure sensing, infrared sensing and ultrasound sensing.
With sensors expected to revolutionise the future of healthcare and IoT, some of the key technological challenges for MEMS-based sensors today are associated with power, miniaturization, performance and cost-sensitivity. Dr. Mohanraj provided the conference delegates with a perspective of overcoming these obstacles with SilTerra’s unique monolithic process platform which integrates the MEMS device on top of the CMOS, making it a single-chip solution. He also encouraged sensors and nanotechnology experts to come forward and collaborate with SilTerra to explore technologies for next-generation sensing applications.
