SilTerra Distributes Face Masks to Police, Fire & Rescue Department and Civil Defence Personnel Amidst Covid-19 Pandemic

SilTerra distributed face masks to the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) and the Malaysia Civil Defence Force (APM) personnel in the line of duty amidst the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. This is in support of the Movement Control Order (MCO) announced by the Prime Minister.

On April 10th, SilTerra’s Chief Operating Officer, En. Kader Ibrahim and Senior Director of Corporate Development & External Affairs, En. Tahir Hamdan, handed over 1,000 face masks to representatives of PDRM, Bomba and APM at SilTerra’s headquarters in Kulim and took the opportunity to explain SilTerra’s business in semiconductor wafer processing.

As a semiconductor chipmaker, SilTerra has been deemed  an ‘essential industry’ by the Malaysian government, given its role in the global electronics supply chain to supply integrated circuits to end-markets such as consumer electronics, life sciences, optical data communications and industrial applications.

In compliance with the MCO as stipulated by the Ministry of International Trade & Industry (MITI), SilTerra has enacted a series of measures to ensure the safety of its employees who are permitted to work on-site. These include temperature screenings of all employees entering the facility, the mandatory usage of face masks to limit the spread of the coronavirus, the application and provision of hand sanitizers, the enforcement of social distancing and daily sanitization activities within the fab premises.

SilTerra’s commitment as a corporate citizen not only includes the safety and well-being of its employees and workers, but extends to all those who are dedicated in ensuring the safety and well-being of the country.

SilTerra Receives BSI ISO 27001:2013 Certification

SilTerra received the ISO/IEC 27001:2013 certification for its commitment to information security management in the manufacture and fabrication of semiconductor wafers in its fully integrated factory. The ISO/IEC 27001:2013 standard is an international standard which provides the framework and requirements to establish, implement, continuously monitor, review and improve the information security management system within the context of SilTerra’s business. Issued by BSI, this certification is a testament of SilTerra’s prioritization towards the protection of information security and more importantly, the protection of intellectual property (IP) of its customers, technology partners and vendors.

Globally ranked 16th by IC Insights in the category of pure-play foundries, SilTerra’s manufacturing facility is also ISO 9001, ISO 14001, IECQ QC 080000, IATF 16949 and OHSAS 18001-certified. SilTerra Recognized for its Excellence by Employees Provident Fund (EPF)

SilTerra was proud to be presented with the ‘Anugerah Majikan Cemerlang’ (Employer Excellence Award) at the recent Kumpulan Wang Simpanan Perkerja (KWSP)Kedah & Perlis Best Employer 2019 Award Ceremony.  This event , held  on 11th November 2019 in Alor Setar, was officiated  by KWSP Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Operations), YBhg Dato’ Mohd Naim Daruwish.

SilTerra Awarded ‘Employer of Choice’ by Principal for its Role in Advocating Corporate Retirement Planning

SilTerra was recognized as an Employer of Choice under Principal’s Top 10 AUM Awards category for its excellence in advocating corporate retirement planning at Principal’s recent annual PRS Conference 2019, held on the 31st October 2019 at Hilton Kuala Lumpur.

Principal (formerly known as CIMB- Principal), one of the leading private retirement funds solution providers in Malaysia, hosted this conference to honor its top corporate clients for enriching the lives of their employees through Principal’s PRS initiatives. The panel discussions at the conference also provided a strategic platform for attendees to gain insights on sustainable retirement planning.

SilTerra’s E-Document Management System Acknowledged and Recognized at Conference by Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers

A submission highlighting SilTerra’s innovative electronic Document Management System (DMS) won best research paper award at the recent 2019 International Conference on Design and Concurrent Engineering & Manufacturing Systems Conference organized by the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers (JSME iDECON/MS 2019) held in Sendai Japan in September 2019.

Authored by Rashitah Rahmat, QA Section Manager at SilTerra, the paper entitled ‘Enhancing electronic document control approval process through a verification stage examined the document control approval workflows within SilTerra’s extensive interlinked manufacturing execution system (MES) which governs product, equipment, material and data management within the fab.

The paper describes the document control approval process workflow and enhancements to improve the flow and efficiency of process and statistical process control-related documentation, to reduce the document approval cycle times. 

The semiconductor industry is the fundamental bedrock of other technological advances.  The semiconductor fabrication process is a complex set of operations requiring 500 to 700 process steps involving multi-million dollar tools and automated machines.     

Changing customer requirements and process-related improvements need to be addressed within a short turnaround time. These requirements make it necessary for changes to be made to manufacturing specifications in a timely manner, requiring multiple layers of approvals.  Incomplete or inadequate proposals result in re-submissions and re-approvals, thereby lengthening the overall document update process. By making carefully considered  improvements to the DMS process, SilTerra’s QA team has been able to significantly reduce the overall review and approval cycle as part of our continual improvement process.

SilTerra’s Document Management System is an integral part of our fully integrated factory automation system in Kulim Hi-Tech Park operational since 2001 and capable of producing up to 40,000 wafers per month; and is honoured to have this work recognized at JSME iDECON/MS 2019.

SilTerra Receives IATF 16949:2016 Automotive Certification

SilTerra Malaysia, a leading pure play wafer foundry in Malaysia announced today that it has received the new IATF 16949:2016 Automotive Certification from SGS (Societe Generale de Surveillance), a world leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company with headquaters located at Geneva, Switzerland.

The IATF 16949:2016 was launched in October 2016 to supersede and replace ISO/TS 16949 and it represents an evolution for quality management in the automotive industry. Manufacturers with IATF 16949 certification are recognized for their ability to meet the demands of automotive manufacturing, promising superior process integration, customer confidence, and product performance.
